Although not originally from the Wye Valley, Lynda Jones settled in Monmouth in the early 1980s, and has lived here ever since.

Most of her work depicts the landscapes in and around Monmouth. While the final image may not always relate to the original subject, all her artwork begins from a memory of a place she knows well.

Here Lynda speaks about why her art is so influenced and inspired by the Wye Valley AONB: youtu.be/_din9cvqkS4 Find out more here:http://lyndajones.org.uk/

Musician and composer, Justin Nicholls, has created unique music for a number of award-winning television series and feature documentaries, including BAFTA winning series such as The National Trust, The Force and One Born Every Minute.

Living beside the Wye, Justin often takes artistic inspiration from the Wye for his music - and quite literally in this piece called 'Time'. Have a watch and see if you too can be inspired by this breath-taking landscape: youtu.be/Mca78OPzj5s

If you are enjoying discovering our local artists this week, then you might be interested in STRATA, a new exhibition at the amazing Canwood Gallery at Checkley in the very far north of the AONB.

Eight Masters of Fine Art students from Hereford College of Arts are showcasing their latest work in this exhibition. Following current social distancing guidelines, it is open to the public from 11-4pm from Thursday 14th October until Sunday 18th October. Canwood also has a permanent contemporary sculpture park.

When many other art institutions have cancelled their end of year graduate and postgraduate shows or opted for an online presence only, Hereford College Arts' MA Fine Art show promises a unique opportunity to see this eclectic mix of contemporary art. All eight artists are exhibiting new work which has resulted in an innovative show, despite the upheavals to working practices through the Coronavirus pandemic.
