Time – What a concept!
With Chris Allton, Professor of Theoretical Particle Physics.
Time exists at every moment of our existence, but what is it? Can we time travel? How does gravity warp time? The relationship between time, space and Einstein’s Theories of Relativity are explained using tape measures, a grey wig, and a black hole. We’ll discuss what would happen if an astronaut approached a black hole and how this relates to GPS. We will investigate the equivalence of space and time – all while keeping our eyes shut! Do you want to know what would happen to you if you fell into a black hole (it ain’t pretty) and how that’s related to the tides on earth? Then join us!
About Chris
Australian by birth, education, but not sporting prowess, Chris is a professor of theoretical particle physics in Swansea University. He uses supercomputers to research how quarks interact to make up protons and neutrons, and how they behave just after the Big Bang when temperatures were trillions of Celsius – that’s hot, even for an Australian.

This is one of 4 Talking Time events – A theoretical physicist, a neuroscientist, a children’s writer and a Dog take you on 4 very different explorations through different concepts of TIME.
