Jac’s River Adventure
With Stephanie Januchowski-Hartley PhD and Daphne Giannoulatou
Jac’s River Adventure is a short poetic story, for young people ages 4-11, about the River Tawe, and the surrounding landscape, in South Wales. The book was inspired by seasonal walks that Stephanie took along the River Tawe in 2019 and is designed by Joelle Evans. The adventure doesn’t end with the story. The book also includes activities, created by Ioanna “Daphne” Giannoulatou, to inspire young people to visit, be creative, and have fun with their local rivers.
You can join in the adventure ! Download the My Local Activity, draw your local river, and email your creation back to Wye Valley River Festival to be displayed on the website along with other’s creations for the festival !
Stephanie works across disciplines to better our understanding about rivers and the diverse relationships that exist between humans and nature. She is interested in addressing questions about where infrastructure such as dams and roads occur and how these modify rivers and the movements of species that live there. She also shares stories and experiences about rivers through diverse mediums such as poetry.
Daphne is a visual artist. She has a PhD in Theatre & Education and she is currently working as a Research Officer at Swansea University’s FIRE Lab. Her work and research focus on art-science engagement and communication. For more info, please visit https://www.daphneioannagiannoulatou.com/ or contact her on Twitter @DGiannoulatou.
